Studio ritual

Care for your studio.

Four steps. Four materials. One small ritual that turns a working garment into an heirloom.

01

Wash gently.

Cool, calm cycles preserve thread tension and dye depth.

  1. 01Cool wash at 30°C, garments turned inside out.
  2. 02Use a neutral, fragrance-free detergent — never fabric softener.
  3. 03Wash like with like; never combine whites with colour for the first three cycles.
02

Dry patiently.

Heat is the enemy of structure. Air does the gentler work.

  1. 01Hang on a wide wooden hanger, away from direct sunlight.
  2. 02Reshape shoulders and cuffs by hand while damp.
  3. 03For lab coats, line dry only — tumble drying weakens the bemberg lining.
03

Press precisely.

A clean press finishes the silhouette the cutter intended.

  1. 01Iron damp on the reverse, medium heat, with a thin cotton cloth.
  2. 02Press the placket and cuffs first; collars last, from points inward.
  3. 03Steam — never iron — over embroidery and at 4 cm of seam allowance.
04

Store thoughtfully.

Storage is where most garments quietly age. Treat it with care.

  1. 01Hang on broad-shouldered wooden hangers, never wire.
  2. 02Allow 2 cm of air between garments to prevent compression creases.
  3. 03Cedar blocks for moths, never camphor; rotate seasonally.
